Profile and objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n

The journal “Actualidad en Farmacolog\u00eda y Terapeutica” (AFT) was created in 2002. It is the representative tool for the Spanish Society of Pharmacology (SEF). It is edited jointly by the SEF and by the Te\u00f3filo Hernando Foundation Institute (IFTH). It is managed, edited, and distributed by IFTH, and its publishing costs are covered in equal parts by the Spanish Pharmacology Foundation (FEF) and by the Te\u00f3filo Hernando Foundation.<\/p>\n

AFT is a journal of continuous training, aimed at all health professionals related to the use of medicines to prevent and treat human diseases. It is, therefore, a journal of pharmacotherapy update, whose rigorous contents are prepared from international bibliographic sources of proven quality. It is published in the Spanish language and its main but not exclusive target is the health professionals of Spain and Latin America. As of 2020, pharmacotherapy articles also include an abstract in English.<\/p>\n

Types of contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most of the articles published in AFT are written by the members of its Editorial Board and their collaborators. However, all contributions that come to the Editorial Board will also be considered.
\nThe sections of AFT and its objectives are as follows:<\/p>\n

1. Editorial of the president of the SEF<\/strong> (1,500 words). It includes comments from the society and its activities, or other pharmacotherapy aspects that it deems appropriate to highlight.<\/p>\n

2. Editorial of the director of AFT<\/strong> (1,500 words). Topics related to medicine, pharmacological science, continuing education, and drug culture.<\/p>\n

3. Guest editorial<\/strong> (1,500 words). Comment of personalities related to medicine (Health, Pharmaceutical Industry, foundations, scientific societies).<\/p>\n

4. Review of pharmacotherapy<\/strong> (10,000 words, excluding tables, figures and bibliography). Updating of a frontier issue related to the R & D & I of the drug, with a recently marketed drug or with the treatment of a certain disease.<\/p>\n

5. Pharmacotherapy cases<\/strong> (1,500 words). Comment of real clinical cases with pharmacological-therapeutic orientation.<\/p>\n

6. Culture and drugs.<\/strong> This section contains articles on cultural or historical aspects related to a certain drug or a renowned scientist. The inappropriate use of anglicisms and terms related to drugs is also discussed, as comments on editorial news related to pharmacology and therapy (texts, monographs). The “Poetry and Medicine” section also included here.<\/p>\n

7. The SEF informs.<\/strong> This section includes SEF News, congresses, symposia, awards and other activities.<\/p>\n

Collaborations<\/strong><\/p>\n

The types of collaborations are diverse. For this reason, some general rules valid for all of them are described here and, later, more specific rules will be described for longer articles. The general style rules are as follows:<\/p>\n

1st Drafting in a clear and concise manner.<\/p>\n

2nd Use only the generic names of the drugs, internationally accepted, in lowercase<\/p>\n

3rd Title of each article in capital letters.<\/p>\n

4th Authors and affiliation. Write the name of each author, followed by their surname or surnames, and the workplace of each one, under the title of each collaboration.<\/p>\n

For the original articles of Pharmacotherapy Reviews and other more extensive articles, the following norms will be followed (in addition to the previous ones):<\/p>\n

\u2022 Monographic articles on a drug will deal with all aspects related to it: pharmacological group, chemical structure, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, efficacy (supported by robust clinical trials), and adverse effects and indications.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Articles with references to the treatment of specific diseases will emphasize pharmacological treatment, pharmacokinetics and therapeutic guidelines. References to the description of the disease and its diagnosis should be minimal (one page, at most); the focus must be the medicine and the allusions to the disease must be the minimum to be able to reason the different therapeutic options, and the clinical trials that support them.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The length of the articles will be 10,000 words and no more than 5 figures or tables.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Cover: It will contain the title of the work in capital letters, the name of each author followed by the surname (s); department, service, and hospital in which it has been carried out.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Presentation: It will consist of a short sentence of no more than eight typed lines, different from the summary, which will highlight the interest of the work and will induce its reading. It will be written on a separate sheet.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Summary: It will be written on a separate page and its length will not exceed 200 words. This page should go to the beginning. The abstract will be written in Spanish and English.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Text: The text of the work must start on a separate sheet and be written in a logical sequence on consecutive sheets. It will be organized with headings and subtitles that facilitate its reading.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Bibliography: It will be cited in the text by means of the first surname and year of publication (in parentheses); for example, (Alonso et al., 1961). In the bibliographic relation, which will be located at the end of the main text, the references will appear, in alphabetical order. Bibliographic citations must be scrupulously selected without the necessary limitation (for reasons of space) reducing the quality and scientific rigor of the works.<\/p>\n

\u2022 References to articles and journals will follow the Vancouver style and will include last name and initial of the first name \/ s of the author or authors in their entirety, title, publication (with abbreviations), year, volume, first and last page. Example: Baron, EJ, Gates, JW. Primary plate identification of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci utilizing a two-disk technique. J. Clin Microbiol, 1979; 10: 80-84.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Book references will include surname and initial of the name \/ s of the author or authors in their entirety, title, publisher \/ s (if any), publisher, place and year of publication and pages. Example: Sabath, LD, Masten, JM. Analysis of antimicrobial agents. In: Lennett, E. H, Spaulding, EH, Truant J. (ed.): Manual of Clinical Microbiology. Salvat, Barcelona, 1981, pp. 437-440.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Highlights: On a separate sheet, five phrases extracted from the text will be outlined, highlighting the most relevant aspects of it.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Iconography: Tables, figures, charts, graphs, diagrams, diagrams, photographs, etc., must be numbered with ordinal numbers, using, both in the text and in its title, the complete word \u201cwithout abbreviations\u201d (VG: table 1 , figure 3). Tables, in Word format, will have their title (after the corresponding number) at the top. The figures, tables, graphs, diagrams, diagrams and photographs will bear their title, after the corresponding number at the bottom. Each of these iconographic materials will be sent in digital format (jpeg, tiff, eps), separated from the article, in an image file with a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Important note: do not paste the images into a Word document, as it significantly reduces their quality. Always send in the formats specified above.<\/p>\n

Submission of contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Papers must be unpublished and not be in the publication phase, or have been published, in any other journal. The letter and the manuscript must be sent by email in which it is specified that the work is original and has not been published in another magazine.<\/p>\n
