Open positions:
We invite nominations to join the IUPHAR Education Section (IUPHAR‑Ed) Executive Committee for the term running from WCP2026 to WCP2030. Details of the nomination process are provided below, and self‑nominations are warmly encouraged. We particularly welcome nominations from colleagues at all career stages and from under‑represented regions, to ensure broad perspectives and inclusive leadership within the Section.
Nominations are invited for the Section’s leadership positions as well as for councillor roles. All positions require active engagement, participation in quarterly online meetings, and meaningful contributions to the Section’s activities.
1. Vice-Chair
The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in achieving the aims of the Section and deputises for the Chair when required. The role includes contributing strategic input, assisting with complex or time-sensitive matters between meetings, and supporting the leadership of Section initiatives.
2. Secretary
The Secretary (or a delegated assistant) is responsible for compiling agendas and recording and circulating minutes for General Assembly and Executive Committee meetings. The Secretary also supports reporting requirements, including submission of the Chair’s Annual Report to the Section and to IUPHAR as required.
3. Councillors
We are looking to elect at least eight additional members as councillors who will attend quarterly meetings and take an active role in one of the Section Committees or Boards:
- Education Communications Committee: Members of this committee plays a pivotal role in fostering effective communication and engagement within the pharmacology education community. Members are responsible for curating and disseminating pertinent information, updates, and educational resources through our quarterly newsletter and various social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Facebook). By maintaining a strong online presence, the committee ensures that IUPHAR’s initiatives, events, research developments, and educational content reach a wider audience, facilitating knowledge sharing and networking among professionals in the field. The activities of this committee are integral to promoting pharmacology education and advancing the society’s mission in a digital age.
- Education Meetings Committee: The goal of the Education Meetings Committee is to bring educators together to network, share ideas, learn from each other and collaborate on educational scholarship and practice. Online meetings allows us to link different countries and institutions and events are planned to be inclusive of a range of time zones and work patterns. Online meetings are usually a mix of prepared talks from a range of speakers as well as time for discussion and networking in breakout rooms. The network facilitates professional development and provides opportunities for members to demonstrate leadership in the creation of workshops, symposia, seminars, and interactive sessions.
- Education Research Committee: This committee is dedicated to strengthening the quality, coherence, and global impact of education research in pharmacology. Operating as an internal advisory and development group, the committee provides strategic leadership, methodological guidance, and capacity-building support to advance this growing field. Our purpose is to enhance the research environment for pharmacology educators worldwide by:
– Developing guidance, standards, and best-practice frameworks to support rigorous and impactful pharmacology education research.
– Designing and delivering targeted workshops and training opportunities that build research skills, methodological expertise, and global capacity within IUPHAR-affiliated networks.
– Identifying opportunities for catalytic support, including small-scale funding schemes, seed grants, or mentorship structures that encourage high-quality education research initiatives.
– Laying the foundation for broader initiatives, such as collaborative research programmes, international writing groups, and open-access resource development.
• Pharmacology Education Project (PEP) Board: PEP Editorial Board is a free online learning resource. Its aims are to produce a simple, easily searchable educational resource for students, and provide instructional materials for educators. Established in April 2016, PEP now receives approximately 20,000 visits a month, with ~13 million user sessions since inception. Content is created and reviewed by an expert Editorial Board, and we welcome contributions to any aspect of PEP that might be of value for learners.
