Antonio Vidal-Puig

Antonio Vidal-Puig
MD PhD FRCP FMedSci EMBA
Antonio Vidal-Puig obtained his medical degree from Valencia Medical School before training in clinical endocrinology at Granada Medical School, where he obtained his PhD based on clinical and physiological studies of the relationship between insulin resistance and hyperandrogenism. The award of the Paul Dudley White Fellowship from the American Heart Association funded postdoctoral training at Harvard University. In 2000 he moved to the University of Cambridge, where he developed the obesity, diabetes and cardiometabolic complications programme.
Prof Vidal-Puig is currently the Professor of Molecular Nutrition and Metabolism at Cambridge University and Honorary Consultant in Metabolic Medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Deputy Director of the Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science Director of the Cambridge Phenomics Centre, and Scientific Director of cardiometabolic medicine at Cambridge Heart and Lung Research Institute. Moreover, he directs the biomedicine program at the Center for Technology and Innovation at the University of Cambridge in Nanjing. Vidal-Puig is a concurrent professor at Nanjing University (China), Soochow University (China), and Chiba University (Japan). Vidal-Puig is a member of the Center for AI Technology of Humankind at the National University of Singapore Business School.
His research program focuses on the molecular mechanisms of lipid-induced insulin resistance and lipotoxicity modulating fatty acid oxidation and thermogenic mechanisms. Prof. Vidal-Puig is the author of 260 scientific articles and has trained many PhDs, and postdoctoral, many of them established in Spain. Vidal-Puig maintains a close relationship with Spain, as a researcher at the Príncipe Felipe Research Center in Valencia (Spain) and Rey Juan Carlos University collaborator. He is a member of the SABs of CIBERob, CIBERDem, and Health Research Institutes in Spain. He serves as Chair of the ERC Medicine LS4 panel and participated in evaluation committees of Severo Ochoa, and Jaime I awards. Vidal-Puig has received important awards such as the International Hippocrates Award for Research in Nutrition (RAM Principality Asturias), FEBS National Lecturer, Medal of the British Endocrinology Society and the Lilly Foundation Distinguished Career Award. Sir Philip Randle Lecture Award from the British Biochemical Society, among others.
Maria José Diógenes
Maria José Diógenes (MJD) is PharmD, Master in Neurosciences and PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Basic Neurosciences.
In 2018 MJD obtained the Aggregation in Medicine, Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon (FMUL).
MJD is Associate Professor of Pharmacology and General Therapeutics at FMUL, certified pharmacologist by EPHAR and researcher at FMUL and Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GiMM), where she coordinates a research group focused on strategies to restore the actions of neurotrophic factors in pathological conditions.
MJD has experience as principal investigator of several nationally and internationally funded projects. MJD has supervised over 25 MSc students, 11 PhD students (5 ongoing) and co-supervised 4 PhD students (2 ongoing).
MJD was the president of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology until February 2025, is the president of the pedagogical council of FMUL, member of the executive committee of EPHAR, and member of the Committee for the Evaluation of Medicines of INFARMED.


Péter Ferdinandy
Prof. Péter Ferdinandy is recognized as Highly Cited Researcher in 2014, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. He published more than 350 papers, 6 patent families. His Hirsh index is 69. He received an MD in 1991, a PhD in 1995 at the University of Szeged, Hungary.
He had a postdoctoral training at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada from 1997-99. He became a registered clinical pharmacologist in 1999.
He received MBA in finance and quality management in 2004 from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
He founded Pharmahungary Group, a group of R&D companies (www.pharmahungary.com) that have been involved in more than 250 drug/medical device development projects since their foundation in the early 2000s.
He was the president of the International Society for Heart Research, European Section, and the chair of the Working Group of Cellular Biology of the Heart of the Eureopen Society for Cardiology.
Currently he is the vice-rector for science and innovations and the director of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy, at Semmelweis University, Budapest (www.semmelweis.hu).
He is the president of the Hungarian Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology (www.huphar.org) and serves as Editor in Chief of British Journal of Pharmacology.
Javier Salvador Rodríguez,

Javier Salvador Rodríguez is Emeritus Professor at the Universidad de Navarra after having been a professor in the area of endocrinology since 1993.
He was the Head of the Endocrinology Department at the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra (CUN) for over 18 years (2000-2018). Prof. Salvador Rodríguez has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and has supervised over 14 doctoral theses. Prof. Salvador Rodríguez was the President of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) between 2011-2014, President of the Foundation of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) between 2014-2017, and President of the National Commission of the Specialty of Endocrinology and Nutrition between 2014-2019.
He has received numerous awards including the medal of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) for his professional career in 2018, and the Basilio Moreno Award of the Spanish Society for the Study of Obesity (SEEDO) for his professional career in 2023.
